Do you know about a 1776 gun running ship called The Southern Belle? Can you tell me the history of this ship?

That's a tough question. I couldn't find any references in the "Naval Documents of the American Revolution" series. Using JSTOR, the closest reference I could find was for the "Belle", commanded by Thomas Jones. The "Belle" was carrying a cargo of lumber and dried fish from Canada to Jamaica when she was seized by the Sloop of War "Greenwich", commanded by Job Pearce in October of 1776.

Do you have any more information? Captain's name, home port, how you found out about this ship, etc.
